The Shaft

by Michael Bracken

After a buxom brunette feels him up in a crowded elevator, a middle manager can’t keep his thoughts on the Cavendish proposal that had been demanding his attention. Over the next few days, he sees the brunette around the building but can never quite connect with her. Then, one night when he is working late, trying to finish the report before the next day’s meeting with Cavendish, the buxom brunette visits his office. Their sexual escapades put him behind in his work. The next morning, when he presents the final report to his boss, he learns that he’s too late. A competitor’s pre-emptive bid undercut the one he’d been preparing, and he learns a lesson about elevators.
